Due to the extreme climate and one annual rainy season it is hard to grow fruits and vegetables in Burkina Faso.
In 2006, Christian World Outreach (CWO) began working to find ways to help produce fruits and vegetables more than once a year.
CWO discovered that using shade structures over a garden area greatly increases the ability to grow fruits, vegetables and flowers
all year long. Currently the agricultural project is generating enough produce to supply the vocational school students with fruits
and vegetables on a daily basis, and the remaining produce and flowers are being sold in the local market. Classes in basic
gardening and agriculture techniques are being taught at the shade houses giving many people the opportunity to learn more effective
ways to grow food to support and feed their families. The agricultural program is very close to meeting its goal of being a
self-sustaining program.
