The HIV/AIDS epidemic is ravaging Zambia. Nearly 1 million Zambians are HIV positive or have AIDS. An estimated 100,000 individuals died in 2004 alone and over 750,000 Zambian children have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS. Over 70% of Zambians live in poverty and are illiterate, however, HIV/AIDS is still the nation's greatest challenge. HIV/AIDS will continue to impact Zambian economic, political, cultural, and social development for the foreseeable future. Due to the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Zambia our focus in this country is work with HIV/AIDS prevention, education and orphans.
Christian World Outreach (CWO) began working in Zambia in 2002 and is currently working with HIV/AIDS prevention programs within the community and in partnership with the Zambia Police Service, HIV/AIDS care, evangelistic outreach & discipleship to boys on the street, and operating a learning library to the local community.
