The long-term impact of AIDS in our world is still not fully understood. Research over the past few years has shown that the prevalence of AIDS in a society exacerbates many other major challenges to development and accentuates existing difficulties.

The HIV/AIDS epidemic is ravaging Zambia. Nearly 1 million Zambians are HIV positive or have AIDS. An estimated 100,000 individuals died in 2004 alone and over 750,000 Zambian children have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS. Over 70% of Zambians live in poverty and are illiterate, however, HIV/AIDS is still the nation's greatest challenge. HIV/AIDS will continue to impact Zambian economic, political, cultural, and social development for the foreseeable future. Due to the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Zambia our focus in this country is work with HIV/AIDS prevention, education and orphans.

Christian World Outreach (CWO) began working in Zambia in 2002 and is currently working with HIV/AIDS prevention & education programs, HIV/AIDS care, conducting evangelistic outreach & discipleship and operating a learning library.
